ELMHURST, Ill. – The No. 23 North Park University men's soccer team earned a 1-0 overtime win against the Elmhurst College Bluejays at Langhorst Field on Wednesday night.
The Vikings dominated pace of play in the first half, firing eight shots while allowing none from Elmhurst. Despite the lopsided display of shots, Elmhurst dodged any scoring from North Park as a scoreless tie remained at halftime.
Halftime: North Park and Elmhurst tied at zero
Elmhurst picked up the pace in the second half, firing four shots to North Park's seven. Yet, neither team could find the back of the net as the regulation clock expired and both teams prepared for overtime.
Wasting little time, junior forward Shatil Khoury drove a skipping shot towards the Bluejay goalkeeper. After the diving keeper was unable to corral Khoury's shot, sophomore Ulrik Lund sprinted in to regain possession in scoring position. Lund turned around to find a sprinting Peder Olsen at the top of the box, who beat a pair of Elmhurst defenders and the goalkeeper for a 91st minute goal and an overtime win for the Vikings.
