The North Park University men's basketball team earned their first win of the season over Waynesburg University on Sunday afternoon 64-51.
Matt Szuba gave the Vikings a first-half lead at 34-26, carrying the offense with 14 points and an astounding 12 rebounds. Szuba shot 5-11 from the field, notched a three-pointer, and pulled down 4 offensive rebounds. North Park dominated Waynesburg under the hoop, pulling down 29 rebounds while Waynesburg tallied just 16.
In the second half of play, Antonio Gardner came off the bench to support the North Park offense with 6 points, a rebound, and a steal.
Matt Szuba finalized his incredible performance with 9 more rebounds in the second half, totaling a historic 21 rebounds in the game. This marks the most single-game rebounds by a Viking since Dan Mulkerin pulled down 22 in 1987.
The Vikings put the game out of hand in the final two minutes of action, outscoring Waynesburg 9-2.
North Park utilized 21 second-chance points and 30 points in the paint to defeat Waynesburg 64-51. The Vikings also surrendered just 9 turnovers while gaining 12 points from their bench.
