Vikings Drop First Match of Carnegie Mellon Quad in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. --

Continuing their nonconference slate, the North Park women's volleyball team fell to the Saint Mary's Belles 1-3 on Friday night.

The Vikings trailed late into the 1st set with the score at 17-12 in favor of the Belles.

Kills by Lauren Wiltsie, Kenzie Krueger, and Kelly Clinton followed by a Niki Ahlstrand service ace gave the Vikings an 18-17 lead.

Unfortunately, the Belles would mark 5 straight points to steal the lead back at 22-18. Despite North Park's efforts to prevent Saint Mary's from taking the opening set, the Belles would win 25-23.

The Vikings would suffer a close 26-28 loss in the 2nd set, as the Belles looked to finish the match in three sets.

However, North Park would take the 3rd set 25-21, with three of the last four points scored by senior outside hitter Lauren Wiltsie.

Saint Mary's would bounce back in the 4th set, ultimately taking the match.

Quick Hits:

  • Sophomore setter Taryn Pohl shattered her match-best assists total, marking a team-leading 26
  • Wiltsie led both teams with 18 kills
  • Senior libero Mia Riccolo tied for a match-best 31 digs
  • Saint Mary's notched 8 service aces as a team
