CHICAGO – The 12th-ranked North Park University men's soccer team notched its fourth straight win, shutting out the Thomas More College Saints 3-0 at the Holmgren Athletic Complex on Saturday.
The Vikings were first on the board in Saturday's homecoming match. At the 5th minute, freshman Joachim Hoff scorched his sixth goal of the season to give the Vikings a quick 1-0 lead. In the 12th minute, off an assist by sophomores Shatil Khoury and Erik Lundeen, Hoff turned around another quick goal, his seventh of the season.
At halftime: Vikings 2, Thomas More 0
In the second half, North Park added to their lead. In the 56th minute, sophomore Peder Olsen connected on his seventh goal of the season and grew the lead to 3-0. The NPU defense kept shots off of keepers Mathias Stulen and Edin Sabovic all night. One of the few scoring chances that the Saints had was broken up by senior defender Jason Gonzalez about 10 yards away from the goal, sending a potential dangerous shot into the NPU bleachers.
This combination of scoring and always-steady North Park defense secured a 3-0 win for the Vikings.
North Park recorded their eighth shutout of the season, including posting shutouts in three of the last four matches.
