Head Coach John Born led the Vikings to a remarkable overall record of 20-2-2. Their decorated season included a CCIW Championship, CCIW Tournament Championship, victories all the way to the NCAA Championship game, seven All-CCIW picks (including Newcomer and Player of the Year), four All-Region picks, and a United Soccer Coaches First Team All-American. Topping all this off, three Vikings were selected to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team: Ricky Pimentel, Gustav Ericsson, and Mathias Stulen.

Born was also honored with Regional Coach of the Year and CCIW Coach of the Year recognition.

Next, midfielder Matias Warp finalized his decorative season with another round of All-American honors. Receiving Second Team All-American honors by D3soccer.com, Warp had 8 goals, 3 assists, and started in all 24 games this past season. He was named the CCIW Player of the Year and honored both Regional and Nationally by the United Soccer Coaches with First Team All-Region and First Team All-America honors.

Snippet from D3soccer.com's press release on Head Coach John Born:

The D3soccer.com Coach of the Year is John Born of North Park (20-2-0). This season, Born, who also won his fourth CCIW Coach of the Year award, earned his 200th victory at North Park en route to leading his team to the National Final. His Viking career ledger now stands at 215-101-38 (0.714). The Vikings' 20 wins crushed the previous program high-water mark, first achieved in 2004 and then matched in 2006. During his first 18 years at North Park, Born had coached his teams to the six NCAA tournament berths prior to this season, but the Vikings had never advanced beyond the second round. Moreover, after finishing 2016 with a mark of 10-7-1 and starting this year 1-1-0, North Park was not on many radar screens in September. Over the course of the season, however, the Vikings went from being unranked in the D3soccer.com Top 25 to earning one of the two national byes in the opening round, and embarked on a run that saw them finish Division III runner-up to Messiah.
