North Park overcame a 2-1 deficit to earn its fifth-straight win – a 3-2 victory over Carroll University – Saturday afternoon in the CCIW opener for both teams.
Two second half goals within seven minutes of each other led the Vikes to their sixth win of the season as they out-shot Carroll 13-7 overall and 8-5 in shots on goal.
Junior Shatil Khoury scored a pair of goals for the Vikes – his third and fourth tallies of the year. After Carroll took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a penalty kick, Khoury came up with the equalizer on a penalty kick as well in the 34th minute.
Carroll responded less than 10 minutes out of halftime when they tallied the go-ahead goal in the 52nd minute, but the Vikes countered once again 13 minutes later when Matias Warp fired a Peder Nalum Olsen offering in after the CU keeper mis-played the ball. Khoury's game-winner – his second of the season – then came in the 71st minute when he took a two-time assist from Erlend Kemkers and Ricky Pimentel and buried the shot in the bottom left corner of the goal.
Of the 13 shots, Olsen finished with three shots while Warp, Gustav Ericsson and Khoury each had two. Keeper Mathias Stulen made three saves in earning his fourth win of the season.
North Park (6-1, 1-0) resumes action when it travels to Decatur for a 7 p.m. match with Millikin University.
