KENOSHA, WI - The North Park University Men's basketball team made the northern drive to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a CCIW matchup against Carthage College.
The Vikings found themselves in a shot-for-shot game in the early minutes of the first half. Finding teammate Aaron Reed twice for a three-pointer and a layup for North Park's opening attack, Dyron Woods tallied two early assists. Colin Lake also made sure to mark a tremendous career milestone in the early minutes of the game, surpassing 1,000 career points with a layup.
Colin and his teammates did not have time to soak up the moment, as North Park quickly found themselves chasing twelve points in the first half. The Carthage offense knocked down back-to-back threes in their next possession, and capped it off with a layup to vault into a 30-18 lead.
The North Park offense reorganized and decided to respond with a few of their own three-pointers. Colin Lake and Matt Szuba brought the Vikings within four of the Redmen, as the streaky Carthage offense cooled off.
With only a minute to go in the first half, Colin Lake knocked down a short jumper, and Aaron Reed scored on a fastbreak. The Vikings, down 40-36 at half, seemingly had Carthage within reach.
Unfortunately, the Redmen offense erupted in the second half, outscoring the Vikings 48-17. Carthage's Jordan Thomas was responsible for 18 of those 48 points and also swiped 3 passes.
One positive note from the game is senior guard Colin Lake has now surpassed 1,000 total points in a Viking uniform. Colin has been a key player for the NPU basketball team over his career, and will look to carry responsibilities as their main scorer this year.
With this loss, North Park now falls to a 1-5 record overall and a 0-2 record in conference. They will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa this coming Saturday to take on Coe College in a non-conference matchup.
