Lake Scores 37 in Loss to Coe College

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The North Park University Men's Basketball team traveled to Iowa on Saturday afternoon in a nonconference game against Coe College.

The Vikings trailed early in the game, as the Kohawks ran up a 13-4 less than five minutes into the game. This came in the form of a successful three-pointer, dunk, and a quick jump shot, forcing the Vikings to manufacture a comeback. However, North Park chipped away at the deficit thanks to an Aaron Reed three-pointer and a pair of free throws for Colin Lake.

Stepping up to the challenge yet again, Colin Lake led the charge for the Vikings. Utilizing a 13-4 run of their own, Lake accounted for ten of the thirteen points via self-made fastbreaks and a three-pointer. This short burst narrowed the Kohawks lead to five as the first half of play came to a close.

Picking up where he left off, Aaron Reed knocked the ball loose from the Coe College offense and found an open Colin Lake. Lake hit a pull up three-pointer on the fastbreak and brought North Park within two. Unfortunately, the Kohawks responded with a few three-pointers of their own and extended their lead to seven.

The Vikings refused to go down without a fight. With just under seven minutes left in the game, Colin Lake drove the lane and converted on an and-one layup. One minute later, Antonio Gardner buried his first shot beyond the arc as a Viking and brought his team within one point.

After their opponents tacked on a few more points to briefly prolong their lead, Billy Kirby cashed in on a layup and the hot hand of Colin Lake hit yet another three-pointer to tie the game 65-65. Unfortunately, the Kohawks ran away with the win, successfully converting on every free throw they could muster.

Dominating the game from the floor yet again, Colin Lake was head and shoulders above everyone else. His 37 points more than doubled the next in line, Coe's Tommy Hook, who had 16 in the contest. Lake was 14-24 from the field and 4-10 from three.

The Vikings (1-6, 0-2) continue on with their nonconference schedule next Saturday where they will travel to face Lake Forest College.
