Men's Basketball Topples Foresters

LAKE FOREST, IL - The North Park University Men's Basketball team traveled to square off against Lake Forest College in an afternoon nonconference contest.

Trading the lead back and forth throughout the early minutes of the first half, the Vikings briefly trailed 13-7 after a Foresters three-pointer by Danny Sotos. The Vikings were able to quickly re-gather themselves when Antonio Gardner knocked down a three-pointer, Billy Kirby drove the lane for an easy two, and Aaron Reed followed suit with a layup of his own.

After temporarily losing the lead, freshman Matt Szuba sparked the Vikings with a three-pointer that gave them a 21-19 lead.

The Foresters responded by stealing an attempted Vikings pass that Jordan Moran took all the way back for an uncontested layup. Jack Gurvey added a pair of points off the bench, and Colin Lake finalized the scoring for the half via a buzzer-beater layup. The Vikings left the first half ahead 27-23.

Vegard Tangen opened up the second half of play by scoring two points in the paint just 34 seconds in. However, the Foresters' offense got hot and went on a 9-2 scoring run, capturing a 36-31 lead.

The Vikings were able to gather themselves for a scoring streak of their own, including ten straight points from the always-dominant Colin Lake. With this final lead change, the Vikings cruised to a 64-59 win.

Senior Colin Lake was 7-17 from the field, including 7-7 from the charity stripe, to power the Vikings' offense with 22 points. Freshman Matt Szuba added 12, and Billy Kirby had a team third-best 9 points.

With this win, the North Park University Men's Basketball team improves their record to 2-6 on the season. They return to competition next Wednesday in Lexington, Kentucky where they take on Guilford College at the Don Lane Classic.
