Vikes win eighth straight; defeat IWU 4-0

PICTURED: Marrion Alvaro

Marrion Alvaro proved Wednesday night that patience really does pay off in the end.

After a strong sophomore season that has produced six total shots and three shots on goal thus far, Alvaro finally got his chance to shine as he buried a pair of goals and recorded three shots in leading North Park to a 4-0 win against visiting Illinois Wesleyan University, their eighth-straight victory and their fourth shutout in the last five matches.

Both of Alvaro's goals looked almost identical and both came off assists from Carel Kawele Kuzona. His first tally came in the 60th minute when Kuzona fired a shot off the right side that bounced past the keeper and right to the foot of Alvaro. On the second, Kuzona took a shot from 10 yards that bounced off the left post and the keeper and to Alvaro for the shot.

North Park led 1-0 at halftime after the Titans gave up an own goal in the 27th minute off a 35-yard free kick from Peder Nalum Olsen. Olsen then came up with his seventh goal of the season in the 62nd minute off a corner kick from the right side. His shot bounced high off the left post and dropped in the goal on the bottom left. In all, North Park out-shot IWU 24-6, including 10-4 in shots on goal. Matias Warp led the Vikes with five shots.

North Park (9-1, 4-0) resumes action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Augustana College at 3:30 p.m.
