ELMHURST, IL - The North Park University Men's Soccer team traveled to Elmhurst College to compete in their final regular season match of the year.
Following a high-energy game against the North Central Cardinals this past week, North Park could have very easily coasted through the final game of the season and prepared for playoffs. Rather than take their opponents lightly, NPU came out to the game ready to continue their unbeaten streak. The ever present high-powered offense of North Park put Elmhurst on the ropes right away, ripping 5 shots before Elmhurst was able to mark one. The 5th shot from NPU resulted in a goal by Shatil Khoury, his 7th on the season. For the remainder of the first half North Park and Elmhurst traded shots to no avail, giving NPU a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Elmhurst came to life in the early minutes of the second half as Griffen Andes sent a wide open shot into the net, tying the game at 1 a piece. North Park answered shortly after with the game-winning goal in the 68th minute of play. Finding open space along the end line, Marrion Alvaro connected with Gustav Ericsson, earning the sophomore his second goal on the season at a key point in the game.
With this win, the 8th-ranked North Park University Men's Soccer team stretches their unbeaten streak to 14 straight games. North Park faces recent opponent North Central College as the one seed and four seed (respectively) in the CCIW Tournament Wednesday. NPU will have home field advantage on their side as they compete at Holmgren Athletic Complex in the 7pm contest.
