CLEVELAND, OH - The North Park University Men's Soccer team defeated Case Western Reserve University (5-8-2) on Sunday afternoon. The first half of play was not short on action as both teams combined for 21 shots with 11 of those on goal. However, both keepers were prepared as a scoreless first half seemed imminent. Just seconds before halftime, Case Western's Paul Darmstadter sent a header to the back of the net for the lone goal in the first half. North Park woke up quickly in the second half, scoring two quick goals in the 49th and 51st minute. Chase Lennartz corralled a corner kick from Peder Nalum Olsen and fired it to the back of the net for NPU's first goal of the game. Immediately following his assist, Olsen scored a goal of his own with a free kick in the 51st minute.
After holding a 2-1 lead through some back-and-forth action, Case Western's Seldon Magruder nailed a shot from the 6 yard box, tying the game. A total of 9 more shots were blocked, or missed the mark by both teams until a rare goal occurred in the 85th minute of play. A miscued header by a Case Western defender caused an accidental own-goal that ultimately was the deciding factor in the game.
Sophomore Peder Olsen highlighted North Park's offense, scoring on one of his two shots on goal and adding an assist early in the game.
With this win, North Park (13-1-1, 5-0-1) stretches their undefeated streak to twelve straight games. They resume their conference schedule Wednesday (10/25) where they look to take the first place slot in the CCIW from North Central College.
