The North Park men's soccer team played to a 1-1, double overtime tie with host Dominican University Wednesday afternoon in River Forest.
Although the Vikings tallied the game's first goal midway through the first half, Dominican came up with the equalizer late in the second half and both teams played exceptional defense through two 10-minute OT periods to walk out with an even result.
Sophomore Emil Eriksson gave the visitors an early 1-0 lead when he scored unassisted near the top of the goal box in the 23rd minute. The Vikings' defense then held Dominican in check for most of the match and it looked as if the visitors were going to earn the win, but Dominican came back to tie it seven minutes before regulation's end when Frankie Saiz put away his first goal of the season off an Isaac Perez assist.
North Park held the overall shots advantage, out-shooting Dominican 18-14, including 6-3 in the overtime periods, but couldn't find the connection for the game-winner. Eriksson totaled five shots to lead the Vikings while Marrion Alvaro added four. Senior keeper Wesley Woodley made four saves in the complete-game effort.
North Park (3-1-1) returns to action Saturday night when it hosts Benedictine University for a 7 p.m. match.
