The North Park baseball team split a doubleheader, defeating Dominican University 5-1 in the opener and dropping a 6-1 decision to Aurora University on Day One of the 2016 NPU Baseball Invite Friday.
Sophomore Brent Kessinger struck out six batters in earning his first win of the season as he went the distance. He yielded only one earned run and gave up one extra base hit.
Senior Alec Strachota highlighted the day as he went 2 for 3 at the plate and connected for a two-run single in the fourth inning that gave North Park a 4-0 lead. Anthony Bragg added an RBI single in the first inning as well.
In Game 2, North Park fell behind 5-0 before Cam Adams came up with an RBI double down the right field line in the fourth inning. The Vikings were held to only two hits in the loss.
North Park (4-10) returns to action tomorrow afternoon when it hosts Cornell College for the final game of the NPU Invite at 4:30 p.m.
