A bases-loaded triple by Mitchell Jordan keyed a four-run rally in the fourth to propel North Park past Lasell College 5-2 Thursday morning in Fort Myers, Florida.
The Lasers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on three singles off starting pitcher Mario Creecy, who eluded further damage by inducing a groundball double play. The Viking bats came alive in the fourth on singles by James DeGeorge and Hunter Landry and a walk to Cam Adams. Jordan then cleared the bases with a long triple to left center, and Anthony Bragg followed with a single to drive in Jordan.
Creecy scattered six hits – all singles – through seven frames and relied on some timely defense to quell rallies in the third (a pickoff), fourth (another double play), and fifth (another pickoff). The Lasers cut the lead to 4-2 with a run in the sixth on a walk and two singles, but Creecy would benefit from another defensive play – a runner caught stealing on a missed bunt in the seventh – to hold the lead. Ryne Sack relieved Creecy in the eighth and worked a scoreless inning before North Park added an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a triple by Ray Cekus and a pinch-hit RBI single by Anthony DiNardo. Sack worked around a pair of singles in the ninth, striking out two, to record his first career save and preserve the win for Creecy (1-1).
The Vikings (3-7) face No.19-ranked College of Wooster tomorrow, with the game starting at noon at Terry Park, field #4.
