North Park took advantage of 13 Albion turnovers and a strong shooting night (47.4 percent) to earn its eighth win of the season – an 84-65 victory – over host Albion College Wednesday night.
Junior Jordan Robinson tallied a game-high 23 points as he missed only three shots (7 of 10 field goals). Juwan Henry added 19 points and sophomore Billy Kirby poured in a North Park career-high 16 points as he buried three three-pointers, including one which gave the Vikes a commanding 50-32 lead with 15:44 left in the contest.
A seesaw battle in the opening 12 minutes quickly turned into a 10-point advantage for the visitors when they broke away from a 12-12 tie with a 21-11 scoring run which was capped off by a Robinson jumper at the 3:02 mark of the first. North Park then built its largest lead of the game at 52-32 after a Darius Brown jumper with 15:06 remaining. The Britons didn't draw any closer than 13 thereafter as a pair of Cam Burnett free throws sealed the win in the final 1:19.
Despite being out-rebounded 38-31, North Park edged Albion 7-5 in second chance points in the first half and had 13 points off turnovers. The Vikes also tallied 18 points in the paint and had seven steals off Albion's 13 miscues.
Along with his 23 points, Robinson blocked three shots and had five rebounds. T.J. Cobbs (9 points), Colin Lake and Henry all dished three assists. Jason Zahran led Albion with 19 points.
North Park (8-1) returns to action next Friday, Dec. 30 when it hosts Manchester University for a 7 p.m. contest.
