North Park made quick work of visiting North Central and notched a little team history along the way in its 25-18, 25-20, 25-11 victory to close out the 2016 season.
The win gave North Park its highest conference finish since the 2004 season as they finished seventh overall.
North Park recognized both its outstanding senior student-athlete in Karen Rosales as well as Cardinals senior Ashley Powers for the hard work and dedication they've given to their programs over their time as student-athletes prior to the match.
Sophomore Lauren Wiltsie led the Vikings net attack with a 12-kill, 14-dig performance – her 15th double-double of the season – while Reagan Clement added 10 kills. Defensively Kajsa Meyer came up with 10 digs and Rosales finished her career with eight to total 907 in her three seasons.
NP raced to a 10-0 lead in the second set thanks to nine-straight service points from Kelly Clinton. Clinton aced the Cardinal defense twice then took advantage of kills from Clement, Sarah Hua-Pham and Niki Ahlstrand. North Central did fight its way back to close within 10-8, but the Vikings reeled off four-straight points in the end to win the set.
In the final set NCC seized a 4-1 advantage, but the Vikings quickly changed that and turned it into a commanding 22-7 lead after they went for 18 of the set's next 24 points on kills from Hua-Pham, Wiltsie, Clinton and a Wiltsie service ace. An NCC hitting error off the antenna ended the set and the match in just a little over an hour.
North Park's 41 total kills in 89 attempts with only 12 hitting errors produced their best hitting percentage of the season (.326). Ahlstrand added nine kills while Kajsa Meyer dished out 34 assists. Cara Howell led North Central with five kills.
North Park ends the 2016 season with its best conference finish under second-year head coach Natalie Dietz.
