A week after a setup performance that earned him CCIW Defensive Player of the Week honors, Gianfranco DeCarne proved he can produce just as well on the offensive side of the ball Wednesday night in Bloomington.
DeCarne tallied both goals in leading North Park to a 2-1 victory over host Illinois Wesleyan, its fourth-straight conference triumph and fifth win overall, as he finished with four shots.
His first goal came on a penalty kick shot in the sixth minute, however the hosts countered with the equalizer not even six minutes later when Tom Nie buried his first goal of the season off an assist from Konrad Wasilewski.
North Park owned a 14-9 total shots edge, but IWU held the shots on goal advantage at 4-3. The Vikes overcame that though in the second half by out-shooting Illinois Wesleyan 5-2. DeCarne final tally came at the 63 rd minute when he connected on the game-winner on a high arcing shot from the left side of the box off a Carel Kawele Kuzona assist.
Of its 14 shots, both Chase Lennartz and Kebba Sanyang had two each while senior goalkeeper Wesley Woodley made three saves. Wasilewski led the Titans with three shots.
North Park (8-2-1, 4-0) returns to action Saturday when it travels to Rock Island for a 3:30 p.m. contest with Augustana College.
