North Park's upset bid of UW-Whitewater just came up short in a 2-1 setback Wednesday night in Wisconsin.
Despite Gianfranco DeCarne's seventh goal of the season – via a penalty kick in the 80th minute – the Vikings couldn't overcome Whitewater's game-winner six minutes later which sent the Warhawks to their 11th win of the season and NP's second-straight loss.
The hosts commanded the lead early in the first half when they put away a goal in the 25th minute, but things stayed even until late in the second half. Both squads couldn't gain an edge offensively as their superior defensive efforts held them to an almost even shots total (15-13 NP), but Whitewater's 6-5 shots on goal edge proved to be the deciding factor.
Of North Park's 15 shots, Kebba Sanyang recorded four with DeCarne firing three. Senior keeper Wesley Woodley made four saves in a complete-game effort.
North Park (9-4-1) returns to action Saturday when it hosts non-conference opponent Case Western University at 3 p.m.
