Vikes defeat Wheaton 2-1

PICTURED: Miguel Valle

Much to the delight of an enthusiastic crowd Saturday night, North Park extended its winning streak to four matches with a 2-1 win over Wheaton College in CCIW action.

Off to its best conference start since the 2014 season, the Vikings defeated Wheaton for the first time since the 2011 campaign. The Thunder suffered their fifth loss of the season.

Miguel Valle gave the hosts a 1-0 advantage just before halftime when he connected for his second goal in the last four matches after receiving a corner kick ball off the left side from Kebba Sanyang with under a minute to play in the first half.

Midway through the second half, freshman Matias Warp then found the back left corner of the goal in the 63rd minute when he took a Gianfranco DeCarne pass from the top left and headed in a shot.

Wheaton did trim the deficit in half with under 10 minutes remaining when Danny Brandt scored on a breakaway shot unassisted from 10 yards out, but North Park held off the late Wheaton charge to earn their seventh win of the season.

Warp, DeCarne and Emil Eriksson all recorded four shots each, while Valle added two both on goal. Max Carey led Wheaton with three shots, two on goal.

North Park (7-2-1, 3-0) returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to Illinois Wesleyan for a 7:30 p.m. match.
