Despite another solid performance from sophomore Jordan Robinson, North Park couldn't find an answer for North Central's triple scoring threat as the Vikings had their three-game winning streak snapped after a 76-64 loss Saturday night.
Fresh off the tournament championship at the Purple and Gold Tournament at Defiance College in Ohio, the Vikings forced 18 turnovers, eight coming off steals, and generated 22 points off the turnovers. But NCC knocked down 11 three-pointers and relied on the hot-shooting from Alex Sorenson, who finished with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds as he connected on nearly all of his field goals (9 of 10).
North Central's defense befuddled North Park's high-speed offense as the Cardinals out-rebounded NP 51-27, including 34-18 on the defensive glass. The Vikings 36.1 field goal percentage was also unfortunately their lowest of the season.
Robinson finished with a game-high 26 points – his ninth-straight game of 20 or more points – as he shot 9 of 15 from the field and 4 of 5 from the three-point line. The reigning Purple and Gold Tournament MVP also grabbed nine rebounds and had one blocked shot.
NP unfortunately never led in the CCIW opener as North Central built its lead to 12 points with just under six minutes left in the contest. The Vikings did nearly overcome an early 13-6 deficit with a 7-0 scoring run to tie the game at 13-13 on a lay-up from Juwan Henry at the 13:34 mark of the first, but North Central seized a 36-30 advantage at halftime.
Henry added 18 points as the only other Viking in double-figure scoring. Sophomore Colin Lake finished with nine points and T.J. Cobbs added eight points and eight rebounds.
North Park (8-4, 0-1) looks to rebound Wednesday night when it travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. matchup with Carthage College.
