When a high-powered offense meets a defensive-minded unit, something's got to give.
For the host Vikings Saturday night, it was sheer will power that drove them to a 2-0 victory over Dominican University before a near capacity crowd at the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
North Park sophomore Kebba Sanyang assisted on both goals for the Vikings, who improved their overall record to 6-1 on the year after earning their third-straight victory.
Sanyang cleared the right side and played a perfect ball to Michal Walaszek, who in turn dribbled around the keeper and put a shot in on the bottom right corner of the goal in the 74th minute. Not even two minutes later, Sanyang found Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh off the left side for the second goal, Tahmi-Masoleh's NCAA Division III-best 10th goal of the year.
Prior to NP's goals however, the match could've gone either way with both teams making runs at shots that either went wide, high or were stopped by the keepers, who combined for seven total saves.
North Park out-shot Dominican 13-8, including 5-4 on goal with Tahmi-Masoleh tallying a team-high six shots. Both Carel Kawele Kuzona and Gianfranco DeCarne added two shots, while Nathaniel Paisley, Sanyang and Walaszek each had one.
The Vikings return to action Tuesday night when they host Aurora University for 7 p.m. contest.
