Vikings lose to Trine 78-60

Lake scores season-high 18, connects on five three-pointers

Despite a season-high 18 points from sophomore Colin Lake, North Park couldn't extend its winning streak to start the season as the Vikings fell 78-60 to Trine University on the road in Angola, Indiana Thursday night.

Lake scored 12 of his team-high in the first half, but the Vikings couldn't find an answer for Trine's Jared Holmquist as he poured in a game-high 33 points on 12 of 20 shooting.

After a close first half that saw the Vikings down 36-33 at the break, Trine broke the game open in the first four minutes of the second half as it went on a 8-0 scoring run to move ahead 44-33 on a Holmquist jumper. The Vikings worked their way back into the game however and whittled the lead down to 57-54 on a three-pointer from Michael Hutchinson at the 7:16 mark, but the hosts didn't relent as they countered with a 15-4 spurt over the next five minutes to push their lead back to 72-58. North Park did manage to trim the deficit back to 12 after a pair of Hutchinson free throws, but a lay-up from Kyle Dodson coupled with a pair of free throws put the game away for the Thunder, which earned its second-straight victory.

Back-to-back three-pointers from T.J. Cobbs and Lake to open the game gave North Park a quick 6-4 advantage, but Trine answered with a 7-0 run to move ahead 11-6 before taking a three-point edge at halftime.

Along with Lake, sophomore Jordan Robinson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds but was unfortunately plagued by foul trouble as he committed four. Juwan Henry added 10 points and five rebounds and six assists while Lake, Henry and Cam Burnett each had a steal. North Park forced eight turnovers and was able to score on all the mistakes, but Trine took advantage of 15 NP turnovers and scored 20 points in transition.

North Park (1-1) looks to rebound next Saturday, Nov. 28 when it travels to Adrian, Michigan for a 2 p.m. contest with Adrian College.
