Despite two early goals, North Park unfortunately couldn't sustain the momentum as it played host Elmhurst College to a 2-2, double overtime tie Wednesday night at Langhorst Field.
Sophomore Michal Walaszek gave the visitors the early advantage when he put away his fourth goal of the season not even five minutes into match. Walaszek found the back of the net on a shot from 25 yards out which reached the far post and landed in the bottom of the goal.
Junior Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh, fresh off a four-goal performance in a pair of matches the week before, then gave North Park a 2-0 advantage when he tallied his conference-best 20th goal of the season in the 65th minute on a penalty kick, the fourth goal he's buried this season in that scenario. Â It was also Tahmi-Masoleh's fourth-straight game with at least a goal scored.
Not even a minute later however, Elmhurst trimmed the deficit in half when Robert Castillo put away his first tally of the season off an Andrew Hicks assist. The hosts then tied it 10 minutes before the end of the regulation on a Jeff Kading 30-yard boot from the left side that bounced in off the far post.
A combination of eight yellow cards were issued in the match with one red card being issued to Elmhurst two minutes before the end of regulation. North Park led the charge offensively in the extra time with six total shots, but unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their chances. The tie moved North Park to 3-1-2 in the conference as it currently sits in the final CCIW tournament qualifying spot at No. 4.
The Vikings (12-3-2) end the regular season Saturday night travelling to Wheaton College for a 7:30 p.m. match.
