Vikings lose to Wheaton 4-1

Despite carrying a 1-1 tie into halftime with Wheaton College on Halloween Saturday, the Vikings unfortunately couldn't swing the momentum in their favor as they yielded three goals in the second half of a 4-1 decision in Wheaton.

With the loss and an Elmhurst 2-1 double overtime victory against Carthage, the Vikings were eliminated from College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin postseason action as they finished with a 3-2-2 record. North Park will now await an at-large bid for the 2015 NCAA Division III National Tournament in the coming weeks.

After Wheaton took control with a goal in the 21st minute, freshman Carel Kawele Kuzona tied the game at 1-1 with his second goal of the season not even 10 minutes later. Sophomore Jason Gonzalez played a through ball to the speedy Swede and he in turn buried a shot in the back corner of the goal.

A solid defensive game by both teams then kept things even until Wheaton came away with what ended up being the game-winning tally three minutes into the second half. Max Carey put away his first goal of the season off an Andrew Wade assist. Two more Wheaton goals in the latter half of the match put the game out of reach unfortunately for NP as the Thunder went on to earn their 12th victory of the season.

Junior keeper Christopher Tomuta played all 90 minutes for the Vikings and made six saves to improve his saves percentage to 81.3 on the year. North Park ends the regular season with a 12-4-2 record and a fifth-place finish in the CCIW.
