Friday night's rematch with visiting Maranatha Baptist University was an unfortunate complete turnaround from North Park's earlier matchup in the season as the Sabercats handed the hosts a 15-25, 20-25, 27-25, 17-25 loss.
In a contest that went in three quick sets in NP's favor back on Sept. 15, it was the Sabercats that came out displaying a high-powered offense led by 15 kills from Alison Renz. North Park countered with solid offensive performances from freshmen Lauren Wiltsie (20 kills) and Emily Farwell (14) who combined for 34 of the Vikings' 58 kills, but NP couldn't overcome a collective .426 hitting percentage from MBU.
After Maranatha garnered victories in the first two sets, North Park rebounded strong in the third set and stayed poised to force the fourth after overcoming a 25-24 match point with three-straight points. An MBU hitting error coupled by a block assist from Sarah Toth and Maddy Barry as well as a Hayley Brake kill gave NP the momentum.
Both Brake and Kelly Clinton finished with eight kills each while Barry added six. Barry also dished 21 assists and had 10 digs to finish with her fourth double-double of the season.
North Park (9-15) returns to action Tuesday night when it hosts Governor's State University for a 7 p.m. match.
