When the pressure's on, Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh comes through in the clutch.
Facing a nationally-ranked top-15 team in UW-Whitewater Thursday night, the junior midfielder came up with the game-winning goal off a rebounded left post shot from Carel Kawele Kuzona with 10 seconds remaining to give North Park a 1-0 upset victory.
For Tahmi-Masoleh it was his team-best 13th goal of the season. Similar to a hitting streak in baseball, Tahmi-Masoleh extended his goal streak to 10-straight games to start the season – tallying at least a goal in each game – the most by an NPU men's soccer player in the last 11 seasons.
A seesaw battle engulfed the majority of the match despite North Park generating 22 shots to UW-Whitewater's 10. The hosts seemed to be inching closer to a tally in the waning moments of the second half however as was evident in their 12-4 shot advantage. Tahmi-Masoleh finished the match with game-high eight shots, while Michal Walaszek added three. Kawele Kuzona, Nathaniel Paisley, Marcus Ollton and Gianfranco DeCarne all recorded two.
UW-Whitewater dropped only its second match of the season as the Warhawks entered the contest on a three-game winning streak. North Park improved to 3-1-1 in the last five meetings with UW-Whitewater.
North Park (8-2) returns to action this Saturday when it opens CCIW play with Millikin University in Decatur at 2:30 p.m.
