Women's BB loses to Carthage 58-53

North Park suffered its second-straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin defeat, a 58-53 decision to host Carthage College Wednesday night.

Sophomore Liz Rehberger finished with a team-high 17 points, while junior Nicole Kruckman added 12 and senior Annie Shain 11, but the Vikings couldn't overcome a 14-point second half performance from Carthage's Alexis Hahn, who finished with a game-high 22.

With the Vikings ahead 38-30 after a three-pointer from Shain at the 16:10 mark of the second half, Carthage responded with a 15-0 scoring run over the next eight minutes to overcome the deficit and turn it into a 45-38 advantage after Hahn completed a three-point play. North Park countered with a spurt of its own however, a 10-6 clip, to close the gap down to 51-48 after Kruckman scored a lay-up from Shain, but the Vikings didn't draw any closer than the final margin when Shain buried a three-pointer just before the buzzer.

Neither team could gain much of an advantage through the first 10 minutes of the contest until North Park broke away for a 31-23 halftime lead. After Carthage held an 11-10 advantage with 9:14 left, the Vikings ended the half scoring 21 of the final 33 points and pushed their lead to 10 points after Rehberger knocked down a pair of free throws. North Park shot 46 percent and forced eight Carthage turnovers, scoring 11 points off the miscues.

Soly Roman came off the bench to score seven points, while sophomore Rachel Torres dished four assists. Rehberger also had three steals.

North Park (8-5, 0-2) returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Rock Island for a 5 p.m. contest with Augustana College.
