North Park utilized a team effort in every sense of the phrase Saturday night as it upended visiting Augustana College 66-44, avenging an earlier season loss, in CCIW action.
Sophomore Rachel Torres, who poured in a game-high 16 points, dished out a game-best five assists as NP amassed 17 total in earning its second-straight win and its third in the last four games.
The Vikings led nearly wire-to-wire, building as much as a 27-point margin late in the second half. Four different players finished in double-figure scoring as senior Annie Shain tallied 14 points, Amani Davis 11 and Liz Rehberger 10. NP also forced 26 turnovers, creating 14 off steals. Rehberger swiped a game-high four and both Torres and Nicole Kruckman had three.
North Park raced to a 9-0 lead as Soly Roman, Torres and Kruckman attacked the Augie defense early and often. The Vikings then saw their lead balloon to 16-4 on a three from Torres and they held their largest advantage of the half at 33-15 after Shain buried a three-pointer.
The biggest difference from the first matchup to Saturday's was the Vikings offensive production. While they struggled to knock down shots in the first game with Augie (12 of 34) things came a little smoother this time around as they connected on 23 shots, including eight three-pointers.
Marissa Pezzopane led Augustana with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds as AC fell to 7-13 and 1-8 on the year.
North Park (12-8, 4-5) returns to action Wednesday night when it travels to Wheaton College for a 7 p.m. contest.
