Vikings lose to Millikin 77-67

Four different players scored in double figures, led by 17 points from TJ Sims, as Millikin University earned a 77-67 victory over North Park in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin conference opener for both teams.

Although they didn't carry a lead any larger than 11 points, the Big Blue shot a blistering 62.5 percent, including nearly 64 percent in the second half to even their overall season record at 6-6.

North Park sophomore Juwan Henry scored a game-high and a season-high 29 points on 11 of 24 shooting, but it wasn't enough as the Vikings suffered only their third loss of the season.

With Millikin leading 44-34 at the 15:25 mark of the second half, North Park put together an 11-0 scoring run, highlighted by consecutive three-pointers from senior Garrett Gatz, Henry and freshman Colin Lake to pull ahead 45-44. Both teams then traded baskets for the next two minutes until Millikin broke away in the final minute at the free throw line, converting on 8 of its 9 attempts.

Despite the loss, North Park forced 23 turnovers and scored 30 points, 19 in the first half, off the mistakes. Lake added 10 points and had four steals, while freshman Trevor Pye scored a career-high nine points. T.J. Cobbs added eight points and dished two assists.

North Park (8-3, 0-1) looks to rebound Wednesday when it hosts Carthage College for a 7 p.m. contest.
