Men's BB upsets No. 17 NCC 92-68

Vikings earn first CCIW win behind Henry's 28 points

The North Park men's basketball team has been building up to a performance like this.

In one of their most well-played games in recent College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin memory, North Park not only upset visiting North Central College, but they handed the No. 17-ranked Cardinals one of their toughest defeats of the season.

North Park played with poise from start to finish, raced out to a 16-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 92-68 win over the visiting Cardinals Saturday night.

Sophomore Juwan Henry played one of his best all-around games, scoring a game-high 28 points. He connected on 10 of 14 shots, including four three-pointers one of which was a buzzer-beating three at the end of the first half. In addition, he had six assists, three steals, seven rebounds and one blocked shot.

As a team the Vikings shot a blistering 61 percent for the game, knocking down 34 of their 55 shots, 10 of which were three-pointers. Freshman Jordan Robinson tallied 20 points, while Colin Lake added 17 and T.J. Cobbs came off the bench to score 10 points. He dazzled the crowd and befuddled the Cardinals on back-to-back lay-ups, one of which was off a steal, late in the contest to give the Vikings a commanding advantage.

North Park built its lead to as much as 27 at 90-63 after Robinson knocked down a three-pointer off an assist from Lake with 2:36 left in the contest. The Vikings transition game wowed the Viking faithful of nearly 400 fans as they recorded a season-high 24 fast break points. NP also forced 13 turnovers, nine coming off steals, and scored 16 points off the mistakes.

Charles Rosenberg led North Central College with 18 points as the Cardinals lost for the third time in the last three games. Jack Burchett added a double-double of 15 points and 17 rebounds.

North Park (10-8, 1-6) looks to continue its momentum Wednesday when it travels to Kenosha, Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. contest with Carthage College.
