Two games into the second half of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin season and the North Park men's basketball team is off to a 2-0 start.
Fresh off its strongest win of the season against North Central Jan. 24, North Park returned with an encore performance Wednesday by knocking off host Carthage College 79-75 behind a career-high 27 points from Jordan Robinson.
The sharp-shooting freshman out of Hoffman Estates High School went for 15 of his game-high 27 in the second half, connecting on 11 of 15 shots overall, including three three-pointers. He also had seven rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes of play.
North Park stayed in control for most of the contest as it built as much as a 14-point advantage midway through the first half after a three-point play from Robinson. Carthage trimmed the lead down to 41-32 at halftime, but the Vikings pushed their lead back up to 14 early on in the second half after Robinson buried a three-pointer.
To their credit, the Red Men nearly made a comeback as they used a 12-4 scoring run over a three-minute span to close within 72-70 with 2:49 remaining, but NP relied on clutch free throw shooting (7 of 11) over the final 1:44 to earn its 11th win of the season.
Sophomore Juwan Henry came off the bench to tally 25 points on 8 of 16 shooting, and freshman Colin Lake had 12. Donte Logan led four different Red Men in double-figure scoring as he finished with 18 points.
North Park (11-8, 2-6) returns to action Saturday when it hosts Augustana College for a 7 p.m. contest.
