Vikings fall to Elmhurst College 75-50

Henry notches season-high five blocked shots

Elmhurst College used a solid rebounding game, had three different players score in double figures and dominated in points in the paint in its 75-50 victory over host North Park Wednesday night.

The Bluejays out-rebounded North Park 59-22, including 39-11 on the defensive glass and poured in 46 points down low. Both Will Nixon and Kyle Wuest led the No. 22 nationally-ranked Bluejays with 14 points each, while Erik Crittenden added 13 points.

Despite the loss, Vikings sophomore Juwan Henry tallied a game-high 19 points, scoring 12 of his 19 in the second half which was highlighted by a steal and a lay-up with just under three minutes remaining, but Elmhurst pushed its lead to as much as 23 points before the final margin in earning its 14th win of the season.

NP kept things close in the first half by spreading the offense around. The Vikings claimed a three-point lead at 18-15 after T.J. Cobbs converted a three-point play with 8:56 remaining, but that was the largest lead the hosts would hold as Elmhurst finished out the half scoring 17 of the final 29 points combined.

North Park forced 25 turnovers, 13 coming off steals and scored 27 points off the mistakes. Henry claimed five of the 13 swipes and had five blocked shots along with seven rebounds. Freshman Colin Lake added four steals as well.

Freshman Jordan Robinson was the only other Viking in double-figure scoring as he had 14 points before fouling out late in the second half.

North Park (9-8, 0-6) looks to rebound Saturday night when it hosts North Central College for a 7 p.m. contest.
