Volleyball competes at own Viking Clash

NPU finishes with 1-3 record

The North Park volleyball team finished the 8th annual NPU Viking Clash with a 1-3 record Friday and Saturday.

After picking up a solid victory, their first of the season, over Knox College in the tournament opener (3-0) Friday, the Vikings had some spirited sets but struggled down the stretch unfortunately.

Junior middle blocker Hayley Brake averaged 9.8 kills per set over the two-day tournament. She finished with a season-high 16 kills in North Park's 1-3 loss to Marian University in the final match of the tournament. Newcomer Monalisa Fasavalu meanwhile added an 8.75 kills average, including a North Park career-high 15 against Marian. Fasavalu added 28 digs in the final match, averaging 19 digs per match over the four-match tournament and freshman Darby Switzer dished out an even 100 assists for a 25 assists per match average.

Brake was named to the all-tournament team for the Vikings as CCIW foe North Central College claimed the team crown by finishing with a perfect 4-0 record. The Vikings took fifth place overall.

North Park returns to action this Wednesday when it hosts Concordia University Chicago at 7 p.m.
