Despite scoring their last field goal with two minutes remaining in the contest, North Park used it sharp free throw shooting to hold off a late rally from the host Spartans to earn a 76-65 victory over the University of Dubuque Friday night in Iowa.
Led by 17 points from sophomore guard Liz Rehberger, five different Vikings scored in double figures as NP earned its third-straight win in improving its overall record to 5-1 on the year.
After North Park enjoyed as much as a 17-point advantage early in the second half, Dubuque used a flurry of points to trim the Vikings lead to 67-63 on a three-point play with 3:51 left. But after back-to-back lay-ups from Nikki Przybyslawski and Rehberger, North Park finished out the final 1:55 converting on all five of its free throw attempts to end the contest on a 9-2 scoring run.
Przybyslawski added 16 points on 5 of 10 shooting, while both Rachel Torres and Shaylee Sloan had 12 points each. Amani Davis added 11 points as the only Viking in double figures. Sloan also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds and Torres had four steals. Emily Brinker led the Spartans with a game-high 19 points as Dubuque fell to 4-2 on the year.
North Park returns to action Monday when it travels to the Illinois Institute of Technology for a 7 p.m. contest.
