North Park suffered only its second loss of the season Friday night, a 59-54 setback to host Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
Despite a 15-point, six-rebound effort from sophomore Liz Rehberger, the Vikings couldn't overcome a speedy Tigers team down the stretch as their season-long five-game winning streak was snapped.
Senior guard Annie Shain added 13 points, as she connected on all three of her three-point shots in the second half, and Amani Davis added nine.
After tying the score at 24-24 at halftime, North Park took a 36-34 lead on a Shain jumper with 14:55 left in the second half. That was the last time NP would see the lead however as Trinity responded with a quick 8-0 scoring run to push its lead to 44-36 three minutes later. The Vikings did trim the deficit down to three at 53-50 after on a Davis jumper at the 3:37 mark, but couldn't draw any closer.
Trinity forced 21 turnovers and scored 20 points off the mistakes. The Tigers defense also stifled NP's attack in the second half and held the visitors to under 35 percent shooting. Caitlin Barrett led the Tigers with a game-high 20 points.
North Park (7-2) looks to rebound Sunday when it travels to Austin, Texas for a 1 p.m. matchup with Austin College.
