Despite a rough shooting performance from the three-point arc, North Park used the dominance of its inside game once again to earn a 76-56 victory over visiting Eureka College Saturday afternoon.
Led by four different double-digit scorers, the Vikings led for all but one minute of its non-conference tilt with the Red Devils as they improved to 4-1 on the year.
Junior center Nicole Kruckman notched her second double-double of the young season as she scored 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but senior guard Annie Shain turned in her best performance yet this season as she poured in a game-high 17 points on 5 of 11 shooting. Of North Park's five three-pointers, four came from Shain as she connected for 50 percent (4 of 8) from the perimeter. She also had four steals and six rebounds.
The Vikings built a 13-6 lead early after a lay-up from Rachel Torres with 13:58 left in the first half, but Eureka responded to overcome the deficit and turn it into a 17-16 advantage four minutes later. NP didn't relent though as it countered with an 8-2 spurt to move ahead 24-19 after a Shain three-pointer, and the Vikings went into halftime with a 37-29 lead.
After a back and forth opening five minutes of the second half where the Red Devils managed to dwindle the deficit to six after a three-pointer from Emily Camden, North Park finally broke away with a 13-4 scoring run to move ahead 57-42 on a jumper from Torres with 9:21 left. Eureka didn't draw any closer than 14 thereafter as North Park finished out the final 3:31 with a 10-4 spurt.
Sophomore Nikki Przybyslawski recorded a near double-double of 13 points and seven assists while fellow sophomore Liz Rehberger added 11 points as the only other Viking in double-figure scoring. Kelsey Shoemake led Eureka with a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.
North Park (4-1) returns to action Friday when it travels to Dubuque, Iowa for a 7 p.m. contest with the Spartans of the University of Dubuque.Â
