Men's BB defeats Illinois College 90-66

Henry notches double-double of 23 points, 12 assists

Time and time again Juwan Henry has proven this season he's an unselfish player. But when it comes time for the sophomore guard to step up, he meets the challenge.

Henry tallied a game-high 23 points, but more importantly dished out a career-high 12 assists in leading North Park to a 90-66 victory over visiting Illinois College Saturday night.

Henry's double-digit assist total was the most by an NPU player since fellow teammate Cameron Burnett dished 12 assists against Elmhurst College February 9, 2013. It also was Henry's second-straight game of 20-plus points as the Vikings improved to 2-0 on the year with the reigning CCIW Newcomer of the Year in the starting lineup.

North Park overcame an early six-point deficit and turned it into a 13-point advantage at halftime as the Vikings forced 13 turnovers and scored 16 points off the Blueboy mistakes. The Vikings took a huge momentum swing into the break when both T.J. Cobbs and Michael Hutchinson stole inbounds passes from IC and converted quick lay-ups. Hutchinson's quick move led to North Park's 16th fast break point of the first half.

NP then commanded the second half when it opened up as much as a 23-point advantage after a lay-up from Trevor Pye off a steal from Colin Lake. Illinois College did manage to trim the deficit down to 12 at the 4:01 mark after a pair of free throws from Tim Schappaugh, but the Vikings finished out the final 3:46 with a 16-4 scoring run to earn the win.

Along with Henry, four different Vikings finished in double-figure scoring led by 15 points from both Lake and Hutchinson. Jordan Robinson added 13 points, and Garrett Gatz had 10. Lake also had a career-high five steals. Schappaugh led the Blueboys with 16 points.

North Park (2-1) returns to action Wednesday night when it hosts Alma College for a 7 p.m. contest.
