Despite a solid second half effort by the Vikings, North Park couldn't overcome St. Norbert College Tuesday night as North Park suffered a 76-65 setback in its season opener in De Pere, Wisconsin.
Playing without reigning CCIW Newcomer of the Year Juwan Henry, the Vikings relied on many different weapons in their arsenal to put together a 46-point second half. Freshman Jordan Robinson scored 15 of his game-high and career-high 20 points in the second half as North Park closed the gap down to as little as six points in the final 6:43, but St. Norbert pulled away by converting on all eight of its free throw attempts down the stretch.
Freshman guard Colin Lake added 17 points, and T.J. Cobbs finished with 10 as the only other Vikings in double-figure scoring. Austin Elliot led SNC with 18 points on 4 of 8 shooting.
The Vikings found themselves down 39-19 at halftime after a rough offensive first half where they connected on only 8 of 24 shots, but NP fought its way back in the game in the second half by knocking down four three-pointers and cutting the deficit to eight at 51-43 after a three-pointer from Robinson with 9:32 remaining.
In all, the Vikings forced 12 turnovers, eight in the second half, and scored 18 points off the second stanza mistakes.
North Park (0-1) returns to action next Tuesday when it hosts Eureka College for a 7 p.m. contest.
