Men's Soccer loses to Dominican 2-1

Head coach John Born and the North Park Vikings weren't expecting this, especially from the accolades achieved earlier this week.

Fresh off a 3-0 win over host Illinois Wesleyan University Wednesday night, which marked win No. 200 in the 20-year career of coach Born the Vikings were unexpectedly surprised with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dominican University Saturday afternoon in River Forest.

Carmelo Abate scored the game-winner, only his fourth goal of the season, in the 80th minute off a two-time assist to give the Stars the win, their 10th of the season while North Park suffered its third setback of the year, but its second in the last four matches.

NP started the match strong, seizing a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute when sophomore sensation Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh scored his team-leading 12th goal of the year, off an assist from Diego Lashlee but Dominican countered with the equalizer late in the second half when Ryan Ybarra put away a shot off the inside far post from a Trent Miller assist.

The Vikings nearly tallied the go-ahead goal in the 72nd minute when Lashlee worked a Stany Lokamba corner kick into the box, but his shot from just 10 yards out was saved by DU keeper Gabriel Gongora, who came on in the second half for starting keeper Zach Watson.

North Park out-shot Dominican 17-8, including 9-5 in the second half. Lashlee recorded five total shots, while Tahmi-Masoleh had four.

North Park (11-3) looks to rebound Wednesday when it resumes College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin play with Carthage College at 7:30 p.m
