Vikings lose to North Central

Childress catches three touchdown passes in defeat

It was only a matter of time before Devin Childress would have a breakout game for the Vikings. So it came as no surprise he did it Saturday against North Central College.

Childress, a freshman wide receiver from Willowbrook High School, caught three touchdown passes and garnered 117 yards through the air as the Vikings returned home after a three-week road trip.

Sophomore quarterback T.D. Conway also had solid day as he completed 23 of 45 passes for 349 yards, including a 77-yard touchdown pass to Terrence Wright, which was a career-long scoring pass for Conway.

North Park garnered 404 total yards of offense and put up a pair of scores in the second quarter. Childress caught his first TD pass of the day an 11-yard toss from Conway with 13:10 remaining in the period, then snatched another 11-yard strike from Conway nearly four minutes later. After Wright excited the crowd in the third quarter with the Vikings' third score of the game, Childress snared his final TD catch, a 17-yard pass from Conway with 2:29 left in the contest.

The Vikings recorded 21 first downs, and both Daniel Anderson (90) and Wright (92) had over 90 yards receiving. Defensively, senior Philip Pendleton recorded seven solo tackles and Nick French had six and an interception while sophomore Mike Harris blocked a North Central field goal midway through the fourth quarter.

North Park (0-5, 0-2) returns to action next week when it travels to Elmhurst College for a 1 p.m. contest with the Bluejays.
