Box Score
Albion used a three-way combined scoring effort to snap North Park's two-game winning streak as the Britons left Chicago Saturday afternoon with a 68-58 victory in non-conference men's basketball action.
Led by 16 points from Ryan Watson, Albion overcame an early three-point deficit and never relinquished the lead as it built its advantage to as much as 13 points late in the second half. Lawrence Ridgell added 15 points and Jordan Herron finished with 10 for the Britons as they improved their record to 5-2.
Despite falling behind early, North Park kept pace with Albion throughout the first half. After the Britons pushed their advantage to nine midway through the half, North Park closed the gap to two at 24-22 after freshman Juwan Henry capped a 12-5 scoring run with 1 of 2 free throws with 4:39 left. Albion held a 28-24 lead at the break.
A quick 6-0 spurt to start the second half then allowed the visitors to pull ahead 34-24 four minutes in. NP made a valiant attempt to get back in the game by closing the gap to seven –once on 1 of 2 free throws from senior Aaron Weaver with 7:07 remaining and again at the 3:16 mark on a three-pointer from junior Reggie McGee—but the Vikings couldn't draw any closer thereafter.
Henry led North Park with a game-high 21 points, his second 20-point performance in the last three games, and junior Garrett Gatz added 11. Freshman JayQuan Lee was the only other Viking in double-figure scoring with 10. Defensively, the Vikings forced 18 turnovers, including 10 in the first half, and scored 23 points off the mistakes. Weaver blocked a season-high four shots and finished with nine points.
North Park (2-3) returns to action Dec. 14 when it travels to Angola, Indiana for a 12 p.m. contest with Trine University.
