North Park extended its winning streak to a season-long six games as the Vikings upended host Benedictine University 1-0 in non-conference men's soccer action Thursday night.
Junior forward
Jonas Pettersson scored the game-winner, his third goal in the last three games, in the 57th minute off a rebounded tip pass from junior
Fredrik Greiff.
North Park, which hasn't faced Benedictine in the last 10 seasons, made the most of their matchup against the Eagles as they out-shot the hosts 16-6, including 9-3 in the second half.
Greiff, who tallied a pair of goals in the last three games, finished with four shots, two on goal, while both
Mike Herbst and
Robin Hals fired three shots apiece.
Benedictine's best opportunity at the equalizer came in the 76th minute when Julio Lopez fired a shot that was tip-saved by Vikings' keeper
Wesley Woodley. In all, Woodley made two saves in the complete-game effort as he improved his record to 8-2-1 on the year. Benedictine dropped its record to an even 5-5-1 as the Eagles had their five-game winning streak snapped.
North Park (8-3-1) returns to action this weekend when it heads to Decatur for a 2:30 p.m. contest with College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin foe Millikin University.
