In a battle for College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin first-place supremacy it was Carthage that just got the better of North Park in a 2-1, double overtime men's soccer decision in Kenosha, Wisconsin Saturday.
Coming into the match, both teams had an unbeaten streak on the line with North Park having won seven of its last eight matches and things were headed that direction in the opening 10 minutes as junior midfielder
Mike Herbst gave the visitors a 1-0 lead on a header off an assist from
Fredrik Greiff for his second goal of the season. After playing out the remainder of the first half scoreless despite a few key chances by both teams, Carthage broke through in the second half just in time as Red Men forward Michael Dombrowski came up with the equalizer 52 seconds before time expired off an assist from Shane Reilly for his 10th goal of the season.
A solidly defended first overtime sent the match into a final 10 minutes in which Dombrowski came up with the game-winner for the hosts in the 106th minute on the far post unassisted shot.
Despite being out-shot 24-10 for the match, North Park garnered seven shots on goal, with
Pedram Tahmi-Masoleh recording two. Sophomore keeper
Wesley Woodley took the hard-luck loss as he dropped his record to 9-3-2. He made eight saves.
