Coach Sean Smith begins his second season as NPU's Head Men's Basketball Coach in 2023-2024.

At the conclusion of the 2022-23 season, Smith was named the 2023 D3Hoops.com National Coach of the Year and D3Hoops.com Region 8 Coach of the Year after leading the Vikings to a 24-win, Sweet Sixteen finish in his first-ever assignment as a collegiate head coach. He led the Vikings to 24 wins (most since the 1986-87 season), 13 CCIW wins (most since 1990-91 season), the first CCIW Tournament win and Tournament championship win for NPU, the first NCAA playoff appearance since 1990, and concluded the 2022-23 season in the Sweet Sixteen, the first appearance since 1987. His Vikings also made 223 three-pointers (4th best in NPU history) and established new records in ORB (406), DRB (697), steals (376), steals/game (12.5), blocks (90), and turnover margin (+7.63).

Prior to North Park, Smith spent three seasons as an assistant coach with Wisconsin Lutheran College, including the past two seasons as associate head coach. While coaching and recruiting for the Warriors, he helped lead the men's basketball team to the most conference wins in school history, back-to-back league championships, including the first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) championship in 10 years, and the first NACC tournament championship.

Smith played basketball at Trinity International University for four seasons (2013-2017). While at TIU, he helped lead the Trojans to a NAIA Elite Eight appearance, CCAC championship, and 30-win season his senior year. He was part of a 25-win turnaround over his four-year career. The three-time team captain played in 130 career games, second-most in program history, and was the recipient of the NAIA Champions of Character award. Smith graduated from Trinity International in 2017 with a degree in biblical studies. He received a master's degree in sports management from Waldorf University in 2020.
