You're invited to be a part of a reenergized tradition at North Park University as we welcome back women’s tennis to our athletics offerings. The Vikings will compete in the CCIW—one of the most competitive conferences in NCAA Division III—and look forward to a strong inaugural season. Read more.
Coach Karl Clifton-Soderstrom
Karl Clifton-Soderstrom will lead the new women’s team. He previously coached the North Park women’s tennis team in the mid-1990’s, and also played tennis for the Vikings men’s team as an undergraduate student.
Clifton-Soderstrom is looking forward to a strong first season, and has two chief goals for the year: “I want to establish among the players a culture of discipline, excellence, and joy in the game,” he said. “I also want to establish the group of players as a team that not only push one another to improve, but support one another through an inaugural season against tough competition.”
Facilities
Viking women’s tennis will practice and compete at the Northeastern Illinois University outdoor tennis courts, not far from North Park’s Chicago campus. Modifications will be made to the state-of-the-art Helwig Recreation Center at North Park to accommodate indoor practice during the offseason and colder months. Helwig also offers a complete suite of conditioning and strength-training equipment for student and athlete use throughout the year.
The CCIW Conference
Student athletes at North Park will compete in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), one of the most competitive women’s tennis conferences in all of NCAA Division III. The CCIW regularly produces some of the countries top contenders in Division III athletics.
