North Park University Athletics

2010-11: Appeared in nine games and made two starts…Averaged 6.7 points per game and 5.2 rebounds…Had a North Park career-high 13 points against Carthage Feb. 16 and nearly notched a double-double of 12 points and eight rebounds against Augustana College Feb. 3…Division I transfer from Quinnipiac University after receiving multiple other offers from NCAA Division I schools…Decided to return home and play at North Park due to family reasons…Had a strong debut at Quinnipiac against Yale as he scored 10 points in 13 minutes.

High School: Played basketball and volleyball…Served as the basketball team’s captain from 2008-10…Was a McDonald’s High School Basketball All-American nominee and a Chicago Public Schools Coaches’ All-Star Player as well as a member of the All-City Basketball team…Earned CPS All-City volleyball team honors and competed on the 17U AAU Illinois Heat and Dwayne Wade Chicago Flash basketball teams…Was featured nationally on Sports Stars of Tomorrow with Pat Summerall…Averaged double-doubles his senior season at Lincoln Park High School…Ranked as one of the Top 5 Big Men in 2010 by the Chicago Tribune…Played with Chicago Mac Irving Fire 16U AAU team at Nike Las Vegas tournament…Earned the 16U AAU national championship as a member of the Loyola Park Full Court Press…Ranked as a Top 25 player for the class of 2010 by Chicago Hoops Magazine…Played for Rising Stars AAU 17U team at the Bo Gibbons tournament at UNC  and Peach Jam tournament in Georgia at the age of 15…Was a member of the 15U AAU Chicago Mac Irving Fire team, which also played at the Peach Jam and Nike Las Vegas tournaments.

Personal: Parents are Sonia Stephan and Fredrick Gabriel…majoring in finance…Dad is an Assyrian Christian, who was born in Iraq and was selected to play for the Iraqi National Olympic basketball team at age 17…Has two older brothers, Paul—a high school senior who has ambitions of becoming a priest in Assyrian Church in the East, and Joseph—an athletic first-grader…Also has one sister, Veronica—a three-year-old.
