WHEATON, Ill. – The North Park men's soccer team battled Pacific Lutheran to a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon at Joe Bean Stadium, extending its unbeaten streak to three matches and moving to 2-1-2 on the season.
The Vikings controlled much of the action throughout the contest, finishing with a 16-14 advantage in shots, a 7-5 edge in corner kicks, and maintaining over half of possessions. Despite creating several quality scoring opportunities, North Park was unable to break through in a match that remained deadlocked for all 90 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper Arvid Skoglund was outstanding between the posts, recording six saves to earn his second shutout of the season. He made four saves in the first half alone, helping the Vikings withstand an early push from the Lutes.
North Park generated chances throughout the afternoon. Emil Soelscher and Alexander Gahm each forced saves in the opening half, while Gustav Finér provided a spark off the bench with three shots. Thomas Roenning also tested the Pacific Lutheran goalkeeper as the Vikings continued to pressure the visitors.
The Vikings turned up their attack after halftime, outshooting Pacific Lutheran 10-8 in the second half. Bastian Eikeland led North Park with five shots, including a dangerous effort early in the period. Carson Belcher and Daniel Garcia each put shots on target during a stretch of sustained North Park pressure midway through the half.
Defensively, the Vikings remained organized from start to finish. Skoglund's six-save performance, combined with strong efforts from defenders Nico Chavez and Dennis Rinne, helped North Park secure its second clean sheet of the year.
Eikeland paced the Vikings with five shots, while Finér added three. Belcher and Roenning each recorded two shots as North Park finished with seven shots on goal but settled for the scoreless draw.
