WHEATON, Ill. -- North Park softball completed a road doubleheader sweep at Wheaton on Saturday, pairing steady pitching with timely offense to take Game 1, 11-1, and Game 2, 15-6.
Game 1 – North Park 11, Wheaton 1
North Park got on the board immediately as Eden Baker opened the game with a leadoff double, setting the tone for a 13-hit attack. Miabella Collazo delivered an RBI triple in the first inning, and Kayla Sapolu chipped in RBI contact as the Vikings built an early cushion. After Wheaton scored its lone run in the second inning on an RBI walk, North Park's pitching slammed the door. Raquel Hare bridged the early innings before Abrianne Papas threw five scoreless frames, allowing just two hits.
At the plate, Baker went 4-for-5 with five runs, three RBI, and two stolen bases, while North Park broke the game open with a four-run seventh inning to secure the win, which was the largest margin of victory over a CCIW opponent in program history. Baker set a program record with those five runs scored, beating the most recent four-run total by Isa Santos against Ripon in 2022. Her game one triple was also the 15th of her career, tying her with Dana Gooris Wells ('99) for the program record for career triples.
Game 2 – North Park 15, Wheaton 6
The nightcap was all North Park from the start as the visitors scored eight runs in the first inning. Sapolu and Collazo sparked the rally with extra-base hits, while Baker continued her big day with a multi-hit effort that drove in runs.
Wheaton rallied with runs in the fourth and fifth innings highlighted by RBI hits from Cate Welch and sacrifice flies, but North Park answered each time. A four-run fifth inning and a two-run sixth put the game away as the Vikings finished with 18 hits. Abrianne Papas again anchored the pitching staff, working into the middle innings before the bullpen closed out the sweep.
The win set a program record for most runs scored against a CCIW opponent.
