GLENDALE, Wis. -- The North Park University women's tennis team earned a convincing 5-2 road victory over Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at the Elite Sports Club River Glen. The Vikings have just one more regular season match left before hosting the conference tournament next week.
The Vikings set the tone early by sweeping two of the three doubles matches to gain momentum heading into singles play. The doubles pair of Alexandra Pugachova and Thea Gifvars delivered a dominant performance at No. 1, rolling to a 6-0 win, while Jessica Dudas and Emilia Sand followed with a decisive 6-1 victory at the No. 2 position.
North Park carried that energy into singles action, winning four of six matches to secure the overall team win. Pugachova was near-flawless at No. 1 singles, cruising past Payton Steward with a 6-0, 6-1 result. At No. 4, Dudas was equally commanding, blanking Katelyn de Guzman 6-1, 6-0.
The Vikings also picked up hard-fought wins from Sand at No. 2 singles, who defeated Ruth Dolde 6-3, 6-4, and Holly Chleboun at No. 5, who battled through a match tiebreak to edge Taylor Weiner 6-2, 4-6, 10-7.
Concordia Wisconsin earned its two points through a victory at No. 3 singles and a win at No. 6, but North Park's depth and consistency ultimately proved decisive.
